Science Based

My training leverages what recent science teaches us about how dogs learn best and shows how to avoid those things that impede learning.

Force Free, Pain Free

My approach avoids anything that utilizes intimidation, fear, pain, or violence. This is both an educational and a moral commitment.

Non-Aversive

My methods take into account not only efficiency in training, but also the emotional well being of your canine companion.

Doggy Gym Group Training Classes at Atonement Lutheran Church

Group classes are a great way to reduce already low costs for training. I offer my Doggy Gym at Atonement Lutheran Church of Beloit. To attend, a dog needs to sign up for a membership, which is monthly. During the membership, the dog can come to class as many times as desired during gym hours. Gym hours are Saturdays at 1:00 - 2:00 pm, and Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm.

Pre-registration is required. Before a dog can be allowed into the group class, I need to know that it is an appropriate fit for the well-being and training of the other students. Therefore, I require proof that the dog has had age-appropriate vaccinations (rabies, distemper, and recommended Bordetella) and has seen a vet who has given her or him a clean bill of health. The dog also has to do well around other dogs while on a leash. I also require a phone conversation to discuss expectations with regards to gear and other policies. Pre-registration needs to be completed by 5:00 pm on Thursday prior to the first class.

Doggy Gym Lite

Not everyone will even have the availability to make it to the Doggy Gym on Saturdays and Wednesdays. To help with that, I offer the Doggy Gym Lite. Simply select either Saturdays at 1:00 pm or Wednesdays at 7:00 pm as your class option. Other than that, it is the same as the Doggy Gym. It meets at the same time as the Doggy Gym, and it subject to the same class-size cap.

Shy Dog Support Group

Shy dogs need to heal. The Support Group is a safe space that facilitates that. In this group class, shy dogs will go through exercises that help work through fears and strengthen confidence. The class is capped at five dogs to ensure that I get quality time with each. Classes meet at Atonement Lutheran Church of Beloit on Saturdays at 2:15 - 3:15 pm. Proof of age-appropriate vaccinations and vet visit are required. Pre-registration needs to be completed by 5:00 pm o the Thursday prior to the first class.

Private Packages and Canine Coaching

A "package" is a block of four classes. My "Canine Coaching" program is an example of a package. In Private Canine Coaching Class, my focus is on helping you learn the science of dog training and show you how to leverage it. Our goal is to strengthen your relationship with your dog and to draw out her or his best behavior. I emphasize  basic concepts and use class exercises to illustrate how to apply them. By the time we are done, you should understand the basics well enough to start being creative. If you want more, the Canine Coaching Deluxe Course (six sessions) expands and goes deeper into the concepts so that you can be more creative in your training.

Dog Training with Skype

Dog Training over Skype

Skype is an excellent platform to use for long-distance training. I have used it most to teach my Canine Coaching Course and work with separation anxiety. When working over Skype, I demonstrate on my assistants (Loki and Lugh). I then coach you as you practice, just like I would if we were in the same room. People who have used the service have been surprised at how economical and convenient it made training their dogs.

Cost:

Single Session: $40/session
Package of 4 Sessions: $150

Pre-Registration Process

Pre-registration involves a phone conversation, presentation of shot records, and paying an invoice. Clients will need to start this process by contacting me about the service they are interested in. In my reply, I will request a phone conversation. During that conversation, we can ask each other questions.

In order to clear a dog for class, I would need to receive proof of vaccinations. This is a safety issue for all dogs in the class. I require the following in advance:

  1. Documentation of age-appropriate shots. This includes rabies (dogs more than 16-weeks old) and distemper. I also recommend, but do not require, bordetella.
  2. Proof that the pup has seen a vet and been given a clean bill of health (a receipt for the shots from a vet will cover both requirements).

Once I have received and approved the shot records, I will reserve the spot and send an invoice. Because space is limited, I will only be able to hold the slot for a limited time, and that time will be identified in the invoice. If the invoice isn't paid before the deadline, the slot moves out of reserved status and back on the market.

The pre-registration process needs to be complete for a dog to attend class. If it is a group class, then it must be complete by 5:00 pm of the day before the class
